Time has escaped me once again. I’ve had this half written blog entry sitting in drafts for over a week now, and finally found time to finish and post it. This week I bring you two tracks featuring special guest vocals plus I get a sneak preview of a new track.
Andy Bull – Dog (ft. Lisa Mitchell)
About time we heard some new material from Andy Bull, and well worth the wait might I add. You may be familiar with this Sydney lad who gained attention with his track Small Town Girl. Having released his debut album, We’re Too Young last year, Andy Bull is back with a new single. Dog is the first track from soon to be released EP The Phantom Pains. (pre order here) Not only does it feature Lisa Mitchell on vocals but also two members of Deep Sea Arcade on drum and bass. A song about the blues, it’s the simplicity and raw emotion of the song that has me listening to it over, and over again. Welcome back, Mr Bull.
Matt Walters – Die For You (ft. Washington)
Last month Melbourne singer/songwriter Matt Walters unleashed a new single, a gorgeous track complimented by Washington’s vocals. No wonder it’s already gaining fans online. Die For You is from his forthcoming second EP, Talking in My Sleep to be released in September, with an album due out sometime next year. Matt’s songs have been on my high rotation list since 2006/2007, if you dig this track I suggest listening to his past releases including Echo On EP. Matt Walters plays the Workers Club in Melbourne next Wednesday August 25th. I plan to finally see him live, you should too.
Fisherking – Islands
It was Smellin Roses by Sydney’s own Fisherking that first grabbed my attention on Triple J Unearthed, with a cruisy indie roots vibe, perfect for your Sunday afternoon. After a hiatus of writing and recording, Fisherking return to the spotlight and I’m quite excited to be given an exclusive listen to Islands, a track from debut album Circles. With soothing vocals and a mix of instrumentation, Islands already has me eager to hear the album. And while it hints at a different direction to that of their EP, it still encompasses elements that appealed to fans in the beginning. The best news is that you’ll be able to get Islands for free by simply signing up to their mailing list before Monday. Link above. Circles will be released on November 5th but keep an ear out for a new single in October.
