I have a lot to thank Myspace for, even though it seems it has now become that distant cousin that no one visits and rarely speaks of. One particular discovery to be thankful for is Central Coast’s Daniel Lee Kendall.
Sometime in 2008, I found myself on his page listening to All That Night, a seriously catchy tune complete with whistling. (There’s also a video for it ) The following year saw the release of his debut7 track EP Time to Spend with Ones You Love and as my iTunes review put it; (the debut EP) is one of those gems just waiting to reward those who take the time to download it. Gone, a track which doesn’t feature on the EP further showcases Kendall’s skill with similarities to Angus and Julia Stone and Whitley, he has the ability to transform a simple acoustic folk song and distinctly make it his own.
In the two or so years from when Kendall first decided to share his music with others, he’s already supported the likes of Matt Corby, Skipping Girl Vinegar and Georgia Fair. With management (Crucial Music) and a new booking agency (IMC) now on his side, I eagerly await new releases and gigs, and predict a long, and rewarding career.
Now, the important news; Daniel Lee Kendall will be in Melbourne this Thursday June 17th and like most musicians, has decided to play a last minute gig.
Thursday June 17th, The Vineyard, 71 Acland Street St Kilda, Melbourne. Solo set, free entry – 10:30pm.
I’ve already cancelled previous arrangements (sorry!) just so that I can finally see Daniel live. I suggest you cancel plans, brave the cold and join me too.
